Netflix’s Wednesday is a comedy-horror series that follows the adventures of the iconic Addams family daughter, Wednesday, as she attends a school for outcasts and unravels a supernatural mystery. The show is not only entertaining and spooky, but also surprisingly insightful and inspiring. Wednesday is a character who stands out from the crowd, embraces her weirdness, and challenges the norms of society. She also learns valuable lessons about friendship, family, and self-discovery along the way. In this blog post, I will share 10 life lessons that Wednesday taught us, and how we can apply them to our own lives.

1. Learn to ask for help
Wednesday is a loner. If she could she would probably avoid next to all contact to other humans. However, during the events of the series, she comes to realize that she can’t unveil this mystery alone. She learns to ask for help. And with the support of Enid, Xavier, Eugene and others she manages to save Nevermore Academy.
Sometimes, we may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or confused by the challenges we face in life. We may think that asking for help is a sign of weakness, or that we have to do everything on our own.
But this is not true. Asking for help is a sign of strength, courage, and humility. It shows that we are willing to learn, grow, and improve ourselves. It also allows us to connect with others who can offer us support, guidance, and perspective.
Wednesday learned this lesson when she asked her family for help to solve the mystery of the Nevermore Academy.
2. Be fiercly loyal to those you care about
Wednesday Addams might not be big on showing emotions, however once she cares about someone, she’d set the world on fire for them. Just look at what she did to her younger brother pugsley’s bullies. Later on, she also supports Enid and Eugene and in turn inspires loyalty in them.
Loyalty is a virtue that is often underrated in today’s world. We may be tempted to betray, abandon, or neglect those who matter to us for our own selfish reasons. But this is not the way to live a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Loyalty means that we stick by our friends and family, no matter what. We defend them, protect them, and support them. We also respect them, trust them, and appreciate them.
Wednesday showed this lesson when she stood by her friends, Tyler and Enid, even when they were in danger or trouble.
3.Not everything exclusive is worth your time
Wednesday couldn’t care less about joining the Nightshade Society. She might have been originally interested in discovering the secret society but as soon as she realized that it was lead by the high school royalty who only cared about gossiping and partying, she quickly determined it not worth her time.
How many would have resisted joining an elusive society that most of the school would beg to be a part of, even if it seemed boring?
In our society, we are often bombarded by messages that tell us to chase after the latest trends, fads, and status symbols. We may think that having something exclusive, rare, or expensive will make us happy, successful, or popular. But this is not always the case.
Sometimes, the things that are exclusive are not worth our time, energy, or money. They may be superficial, shallow, or deceptive. They may also distract us from the things that truly matter, such as our passions, values, and relationships.
4.Don’t underestimate the value of your talents
For quite a while, Wednesday was annoyed by her prophetic visions. They came at inopportune moments and didn’t leave her with much insight at all. However, as the sinister plot at the school progresses she learned to appreciate her visions a bit more and they even ended up being helpful.
We all have talents that make us unique and special. We may have skills, abilities, or interests that set us apart from others. We may also have passions, dreams, or goals that inspire us to pursue our talents.
However, sometimes, we may underestimate the value of our talents. We may think that they are not good enough, not useful enough, or not important enough. We may also compare ourselves to others who have different talents, and feel inferior or inadequate. But this is not the way to appreciate our talents.
Our talents are valuable, because they reflect who we are, what we love, and what we can contribute to the world.
5.Go at your own pace – don’t compare your development to others
Enid Sinclair was under pressure from her mother because she had not yet experienced her werewolf shift on a full moon. While she mourned the fact that she couldn’t run with the other wolves, she held firm in the believe that the shift would happen naturally, without having to go to a ‘camp’ to force it to. And in the end, it happened exactly when she didn’t have time to worry about it.
We all have our own pace of development, growth, and learning. We may progress faster or slower than others in different areas of life, such as academics, career, or relationships. We may also face different challenges, opportunities, and circumstances that affect our development.
However, sometimes, we may feel pressured to conform to the expectations, standards, or norms of others. We may think that we have to keep up with, or surpass, others in order to be successful, happy, or worthy. But this is not the way to respect our development. Our development is not a competition, but a journey.
We should go at our own pace, and focus on our own goals, strengths, and potentials. We should also celebrate our achievements, and learn from our mistakes.
6. Don’t let spite dictate your life
Spite is a negative emotion that arises when we feel wronged, hurt, or offended by someone or something. We may feel angry, resentful, or vengeful towards the person or thing that caused us pain. We may also seek to hurt them back, or to prove them wrong.
However, spite is not a healthy or productive way to deal with our emotions. Spite can consume us, and make us bitter, hateful, or miserable. It can also blind us, and make us irrational, reckless, or destructive. It can also prevent us from healing, forgiving, or moving on.
Instead of letting spite dictate our life, we should find constructive ways to cope with our emotions, such as talking, writing, or meditating. We should also seek to understand the perspective of the other person or thing, and try to empathize, communicate, or resolve the issue. We should also focus on the positive aspects of our life, such as our goals, passions, and relationships.
Wednesday showed this lesson when she did not let her spite towards her enemies, such as the Ravens, the headmistress, or the killer, control her life. She did not seek revenge, but justice. She did not let them ruin her happiness, but enhanced it.
7. Find a balance between being unapologetically you and conforming to societies standards
Countless people advise us to be unapologetically ourselves. And what a nice thought it is, not having to force ourselves to change and instead stay exactly as we are right now. But the truth of the matter is, that you can make your life significantly harder if you decide to alienate everyone around you.
Wednesday Addams is an extreme example of that. It takes her a long time and numerous unnecessary conflicts to realize that adapting slightly to the people around her might be a good idea. That’s not to say she is not herself anymore. But she has learned to compromise at least sometimes for the sake of the people she likes.
We all have our own identity, personality, and style. We may have preferences, opinions, or beliefs that differ from others. We may also have quirks, flaws, or eccentricities that make us stand out from the crowd.
However, sometimes, we may face criticism, rejection, or discrimination from others who do not understand, accept, or appreciate us. We may think that we have to change ourselves, hide ourselves, or apologize for ourselves in order to fit in, belong, or survive. But this is not the way to honor ourselves.
We should be proud of who we are, and express ourselves authentically and confidently. We should also respect the diversity of others, and seek to understand, accept, and appreciate them.
However, this does not mean that we should ignore, violate, or challenge the rules, norms, or values of the society we live in. The key is to find a balance between being ourselves, and being respectful, responsible, and cooperative members of the society.
Wednesday is a show that offers more than just laughs and scares. It also offers wisdom and guidance for anyone who feels different, misunderstood, or curious about the world. Wednesday is a role model for being true to yourself, following your passions, and finding your tribe. She also shows us the importance of family, loyalty, and courage.
By watching Wednesday, we can learn to appreciate the beauty of diversity, the power of curiosity, and the joy of adventure. I hope you enjoyed this blog post, and I encourage you to watch Wednesday on Netflix if you haven’t already. You might just discover something new about yourself, or the world around you.
