1. Everyone Needs to Rest
You know that feeling when you’re running around like crazy, trying to get everything done? Luisa’s story in “Encanto” reminds us that even the Energizer Bunny needs a break sometimes. It’s easy to forget, but rest actually makes us more productive because it recharges our body and soul. So, don’t forget to take some “me time” and catch a breather.
2. Stop Being a People Pleaser
Isabela’s journey teaches us a crucial lesson: trying to make everyone happy while neglecting your own happiness is like trying to fill a bucket with holes. It’s important to prioritize yourself and your needs, even if it means saying “no” sometimes. After all, your happiness is just as important as anyone else’s.
Isabela felt much more fulfilled once she allowed herself to grow other plants and admit that she didn’t like her fiance.
3. Everyone Has Talents, You Just Need to Look for Them
Mirabel didn’t receive an obvious magical gift from Casita. However, the charisma with which she entertained the children, as well as her embroideries, are far from common or useless. She just took them for granted.
This lesson tells us that sometimes, our special abilities aren’t flashy or obvious, but they’re there. So, take a moment to look within and discover your hidden talents. You might surprise yourself!
4. Don’t Believe Everything Rumors Tell You
Bruno’s experience with the ungrateful villagers demonizing his gift shows us that rumors can be like a game of telephone gone wild. It’s easy for stories to get twisted and turned. So, before you jump to conclusions, dig deeper and get the real scoop. Don’t let gossip steer you in the wrong direction. And always keep in mind that no source is ever impartial.
5. You Can’t Always Be Happy
Life isn’t a non-stop fiesta, and that’s perfectly okay. Despite what some Law of Attraction gurus claim, it is not healthy to have good vibes only. It’s normal to have ups and downs, and it’s okay to feel sad or frustrated sometimes. Emotions are like the weather—they change. In fact, if you force your bad emotions away for long enough, you are bound to hit a really bad spot eventually. It’s like the yoyo effect.
You can see it with Pepa. The entire Madrigal family always tells her to calm down and to think happy thoughts. But, of course, it doesn’t work that way. Instead, her anxiety over Antonio’s gift ceremony reaches a point where she is hurricane-ing the flowers.
If she allowed herself to deal with her emotions in a healthy way, she would probably not have such rapid emotional fluctuations.
So, embrace all your feelings, and remember that even on rainy days, the sun will eventually shine.
6. It’s Easier to Embrace Your Flaws Than to Act Perfect
Isabela’s act of perfectionism turned into her gilded cage. She felt trapped by all the expectations on her and was even jealous of giftless Mirabel and her supposedly easy life. Isabela was able to relax once she embraced her flaws.
This lesson reminds us that trying to be perfect is like chasing a rainbow’s end—it’s elusive and exhausting. Instead, embrace your quirks and flaws because they make you who you are. You won’t be able to keep up the image of perfection forever, anyway. So why try? The backlash is only going to hurt. Just think of all the photoshopped images of celebrities or the denials of plastic surgery that later turned out to be lies.
7. Everybody Wants What They Don’t Have, So Be Grateful
Mirabel’s and Isabela’s relationship highlights that grass-is-greener syndrome we sometimes get. It’s easy to envy what others have. But remember, gratitude can turn your perspective around. Take a moment each day to count your blessings and appreciate what you have. It’s like a happiness booster.
8. Set Clear Boundaries
The Madrigals let the entire village of Encanto walk all over them. Especially, Luisa caters to every demand as soon as she possibly can. If a villager says ‘jump,’ she asks ‘how high.’ It’s clear as day that this takes a toll on her. Unfortunately, this behavior will not stop until Luisa refuses to accept it anymore.
Healthy relationships thrive on clear communication and mutual respect. So, don’t be afraid to say, “Hey, this is my comfort zone.”
9. Think Before You Talk; Not Everything Needs to Be Shared
Dolores has a lot of uncomfortable knowledge of anyone. Barely anything in the entire village is unknown to her. She can hear people fighting, lying, cheating, and more. Most of the time, she is pretty good at keeping things to herself. But when the magic of Casita is failing, Dolores cracks and spreads the suspicion that it’s Mirabel’s fault at arguably the worst possible moment.
This lesson is a gentle nudge to think before you speak. Not everything needs to be spilled like a bag of marbles. Some thoughts are better left unsaid, and choosing your words wisely can prevent storms in your relationships.
As we wrap up our visit to the vibrant world of Encanto, remember this: Life lessons don’t always come from a magical town with singing casitas, but they’re all around us if we look closely.
So, as you head back to your own adventures, keep these lessons in your back pocket. Rest when you need to, be yourself, and maybe even take a moment to talk to the animals (figuratively, of course). After all, life is an ever-evolving journey, and embracing the wisdom from Encanto can make it just a little more enchanting. Thanks for joining us on this magical ride!
