There are a lot of tools on the market that promise to enhance your naturally curly hair.
Since most of us don’t want to or can’t have a whole shelf full of curly hair tools, we have to ask ourselves which ones are necessary and which aren’t so much.
Below I’ve listed all the tools I currently use for my curly hair.
Feel free to leave your own favorite tools in the comments down below. I am always eager to learn more and improve my hair care strategy.

1. Microfiber towel
Let’s start with one of those tools seemingly EVERY curly girl mentions: A microfiber towel.
I have to admit, for a long time, I was skeptical about whether or not I should purchase one.
I couldn’t imagine it to make much of a difference. And the fact that it didn’t pull as much water out of the hair as a regular towel didn’t appeal to me considering how long my hair already took to dry.
But eventually, I got over myself and purchased a rather cheap one from Amazon.
And I’ve genuinely haven’t regretted it even a bit. Very quickly, I felt like my hair was indeed less frizzy if I only used the microfiber towel on it.
So get yourself one of them and try it out yourself!
2. Diffusor
Another fundamental tool that probably every curly girl has is a diffusor.
What’s vital for me to tell you around this topic, is that you absolutely do not need to obsess over getting a fancy diffuser like that DevaCurl hand.
A normal and cheap one works just fine. For example, I discovered that the hairdryer I had used for years before starting to air dry my hair actually came with a diffusor. I have been using it ever since.
Sure, one day, I might get myself a bigger one, where more hair fits in between those diffusor-spikes, but for now, this one works just fine.
So please don’t obsess over it.
However, if you have to buy a new one, keep a lookout for its measurements so that it will fit onto your blow dryer!
3. A brush to detangle your hair gently
Curly hair shouldn’t be brushed too often as it easily creates breakage and frizz.
But of course, we do want to brush it regularly when it’s wet to get rid of any knots.
For that, you should get yourself a brush that enables you to detangle your hair as gently as possible.
I know a lot of people recommend brushes like the teezer tangle brush.
Personally, I tried to save some money and not overthink my choice too much, so I simply took one of the brushes we had at home, which didn’t have too many rods.
4. A hair cap
If you have curly hair you probably get to a point where you wash it only every third day or so.
But as Boss Ladies, we like to take care of our bodies and workout, which means we sweat. Naturally, this means we should wash our bodies more often than every third day.
I more or less managed to keep most of my curls dry while taking a shower by doing a quick updo.
But this is so much easier with a hair cap.
Another thing to consider is heated hair caps, that help the product you use while deep conditioning to seep better into your hair.
5. A scalp massager
I’ve been struggling with an itchy scalp for years now.
The longer I go without washing my hair, the itchier it gets.
So recently, I purchased a cheap scalp massager from Amazon to deeply massage the calming shampoo into my scalp, increase blood circulation, and get rid of product build-up.
And I have to say I do feel like it makes a bit of a difference. At least it is much easier to truly massage the scalp without having to put that much force on my fingers.
6. A silk pillowcase
And lastly, a silk pillowcase to reduce frizz overnight and to benefit your skin as well.
Furthermore, it is an incredibly luxurious feeling to sleep on a silk pillowcase.
And you might be surprised at how affordable it can be. There are, for example, cheaper options that are only silk on one side.
To end this list, I’d like to remind you that no amount of curly hair tools can save your hair if it is damaged.
The number one way to achieve silky and voluminous curls is by nourishing and healing them.
Tools only provide so much additional benefit. That’s why I wouldn’t obsess too much with them and simply acquire one or the other whenever you have the money to spare or a birthday or something is coming up.
Keep your curls healthy!
